I was lucky to talk last Thursday on January 30th during the DayToGrow Event organized by Karin bastin.

I talked about the role of work during treatment  and how crucial it is  for employees to maintain a sense of normalcy. A professional routine can significantly impact mental health. As leaders, we must ensure that our team members feel like valued members of the team, even when they are facing personal challenges. This means creating an environment where they feel comfortable sharing their emotions without fear.

Empowerment starts with communication. Encourage employees to express their needs clearly. Ask them what support they require and be open to adapting workloads and schedules to accommodate their treatment. This tailored approach not only shows

Education is another vital aspect. We can create opportunities for our teams to learn about cancer treatment and its impacts. Inviting patient experts or courageous leaders to share their journeys can foster understanding and compassion among team members. This initiative not only educates but also builds a supportive community

Communication is important. Active listening is key. When someone shares their struggles, it’s essential to be supportive and present. We also need to educate our leadership on how to communicate effectively and compassionately. This means being aware of our language and the impact it can have.

I have shared my definition of courageous leadership:

“Courageous leadership is not just about guiding others through calm waters. It’s about navigating the storm with strength, resilience, and compassion. We must inspire those around us to rise above challenges together. This approach creates an environment where employees feel safe and supported.”
